Result of the fifty-ninth evaluation of the prevention measures
against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD)

The fifty-ninth evaluation of the prevention measures against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) according to the Circular Letter of Minister of Agriculture No. TN.510/94/A/IV/2001 concerning prevention measures against FMD, and based on the last weekly report of Office International des Epizooties (OIE) dated on 1 August 2003 it can be concluded that:

1.         FMD infected countries  

 

1.1

Libya, Bolivia and Paraguay are still categorized as countries having outbreak of FMD based on report in the OIE Weekly Report on Disease Information dated 4 July 2003, 11 July 2003 and 18 July 2003
 

1.2

To the above countries, importation of certain products is totally banned as stated in the Circular Letter of the Minister of Agriculture No. 510/94/A/IV/2001 dated 20 April 2001 point IIA.


2.         FMD endemic countries

 

2.1.

The outbreak of FMD was reported in Malawi in OIE Weekly Report dated 20 June 2003.  As there was no progress report on the outbreak of FMD in the next publication of OIE Weekly Reports as well as the disease has been exceed 30 days since the first case, Malawi is categorized as endemic country.
 

2.2.

Peru, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Zimbabwe, Republic of Korea, Mongolia, the Palestinian Autonomous Territories, Mozambique, Venezuela, Syria, Botswana, Eritrea, Hong Kong and United Arab Emirates are still categorized as FMD endemic countries as stated previously in the fifty-eighth evaluation;
 

2.3.

To those countries, a temporary import ban of certain products has to be implemented as stated in the Circular Letter of the Minister of Agriculture No. TN.510/94/A/IV/2001 dated 20 April 2001 point II B.

3.         FMD free countries

 

3.1.

Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Germany, Luxembourg, Sweden, Spain, Greece, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, Rep. of Ireland and the United Kingdom are still categorized as FMD free country as stated previously in the fifty-eighth evaluation;
 

3.2.

To those countries, importation of commodities could be allowed based on the current technical requirements.

    Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cuba, Cyprus, Czech Rep., Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia,
    Finland, Former Yug. Rep. of Macedonia, France, Germany, Guatemala, Guyana, Greece, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland,
    Indonesia, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania,
    Luxembourg, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, New Caledonia, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden,
    Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America, Vanuatu.
 - Country not listed above is categorized as endemic or having outbreak of FMD.
